Developer — Customer Facing @ Bombardier

During my eight-month internship at Bombardier, I contributed to the development and improvement of an internal enterprise web application within the Customer Facing — Strategy & Delivery Performance team. My work spanned the full development lifecycle, from understanding business requirements and existing system architecture to database design, backend development, user interface implementation, testing, and delivery. This experience exposed me to building software in a large organization, where technical decisions must align with business needs, existing systems, and organizational constraints.

Throughout the internship, I designed and implemented new functionality using C#, ASP.NET MVC, Razor, Entity Framework, SQL Server, JavaScript, HTML/CSS, and Bootstrap. I worked across the database, backend, and frontend, translating business requirements into technical solutions and adapting implementation decisions as requirements became clearer. Working within an established application taught me to understand existing patterns and dependencies, reuse functionality where appropriate, and prioritize maintainability over simply making something work.

Beyond feature development, I took initiative around documentation, traceability, development environments, version control, and developer tooling. I also used GitHub Copilot as an AI-assisted development tool to accelerate repetitive implementation work while reviewing and validating its output. These experiences shifted my perspective from focusing exclusively on individual features toward thinking more broadly about the systems, tools, and workflows used to build software effectively.

Toward the end of the internship, my responsibilities expanded into a more exploratory and consultative direction. I contributed recommendations around the evolution of the application, development practices, and the potential integration of AI into engineering workflows. This led me to explore how established enterprise software can be modernized incrementally, how AI can reduce repetitive development work while preserving human oversight, and how better engineering processes can improve both delivery speed and software quality.

Overall, my experience at Bombardier strengthened my ability to approach technology from both an engineering and product perspective. It taught me to understand the problem behind a feature, navigate ambiguity and constraints, communicate across technical and business contexts, and think beyond implementation toward how products and the processes used to build them can continuously improve. The experience reinforced my interest in building products at the intersection of technology, AI, engineering, and business.

Some project details and visuals have been intentionally omitted.
